Formed in 2003 in Peckham, South London by creative art entrepreneur. Mickey Smith, music pioneer Marque Gilmore, Dej Mahoney (Ex-Vice President of Business Affairs, Sony Music UK) + David Malone (Barrister Criminal Law/ Human Rights.) and run since 2005 by Mickey Smith & Partner Saija Kamarainen, The specific aim: to implement credible mass-market projects on a global scale for the betterment of humankind and to attack the world’s major problems head-on through global, corporate, and government investment.
Derelict Spaces converted to creative hubs + projects founded and run by The CLF include The CLF Art Cafe aka Bussey Building, Rye Wax, The CLF Art lounge & Roof Garden, The South London Soul Train, The CLF Theatre, Chronic Fonk Records + More.



THE CLF ART LOUNGE
& ROOF GARDEN

The CLF Art Lounge former location was a 2 floor Music, Arts, Bar, Restaurant and Education Space next to Peckham Rye Station. Known as one of London's best places to watch intimate live music, in addition to having one of London's best Roof Gardens.
Its eclectic music and arts programme is truly progressive and far reaching. Jazz to Soul, Afrobeat to Salsa, World Music + beyond. Featuring everything from student bands from Trinity Laban to Goldsmiths, creative studios/promoters like Kwake Basses - The Room Studio to Floetrys Flo Vortex (spoken word). The CLF Art Lounge staging approximately 250 shows per year.

Rye Wax is an independent music venue and DJ Collective based in Peckham. We provide a home for creative communities, where accessibility and participation takes precedence over profit. We champion music and culture that is underrepresented or marginalised through providing a physical and digital space for these countercultural movements to flourish.

The CLF Theatre started out in 2011 as an open plan space to allow for local and International productions of theatre and the arts, before emerging 2 years later as a 105 Seat Theatre designed by The Royal Court Theatre as part of their Theatre Local project. An amazing project that saw direct Sloane Square transfers of Royal Court plays Belong, Vera Vera Vera, The Westbridge, Truth & Reconciliation, The Strange Undoing Of Prudencia Heart + More.
In addition to The Royal Court, we’ve also worked with a wide range of leading and upcoming grass roots Companies/Organisation’s to create some truly absorbing and truly unique theatre. From Townsend Productions The Raggered Trousered Philanthropist and United We Stand to The Factories The Odyssey, Tiata Fahodzi’s brilliant comedic production The Epic Adventure of Nhamo The Manyika Warrior And His Sexy Wife Chipo, Opera In Space’s multi level Hansel & Gretel + Dido and Aeneas, Anthony Greens groundbreaking production of Otello, Projects from Oval House, Manchester Collective, Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment, Talks with Ken Loach + so much more. Since It’s Inception in 2011 - The South London Soul Train has earned a reputation as one of worlds leading eclectic soul night. A multi-level funked up extravaganza, The South London Soul Train was founded by Jazzheadchronic Mickey Smith at The 1050 capacity CLF Art Cafe aka Bussey Building, Peckham [which Mickey also founded].
Between March 2011 and March 2020, The SLST built from strength to strength, expanding to 4 3000sq ft warehouse floors and selling out for 7 years straight. At its peak, the SLST averaging over 1400 people per event. The SLST an established ego free, non pretentious temple of good times - built on a reputation of quality music, dropped by legendary DJs and bands on mighty sound systems.

The CLF Art Cafe aka Bussey Building (Peckham) was one of UKS leading venues for music and art and culture. Spread over four 3000sqft Warehouse floors, all armed with heavyweight sound systems, the venue regularly jumped to the eclectic sounds of some of the world leading under-overground artists and over 1000 happy punters.
Since 2008 we’ve hosted literally 1000s of projects in music, theatre and the arts with some of the leading lights in the grassroots, underground and overground scenes. Hosting projects with the likes of Bestival, Boiler Room, NTS Radio, Hyperdub, Stevie Wonderland, Fred Wesley & The New JBs, Brian Jackson & The New Midnight Band, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mura Masa, A Guy Called Gerald, Lianne Le Havas, Adrian Sherwood, S.O.P.H.I.E, Disclosure, Mutabaruka, Norman Jay, Dillinja, Eva Lazarus + too many more to mention.
Its positive place in London's club/music & the artist history is undeniable!!
